Green Team

“The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it . . .” Psalm 24:1

Immanuel cares for God’s creation and for our world. Our Green Team lives into values of sustainability and earth care in our work and in our lives.

Green Team efforts include:

  • Encouraging composting and recycling on our church property
  • Hosting Earth Day worship each April
  • Creating a pollinator garden, composed of native plantings shared from a nearby church
  • Gardening in our raised bed produce garden for Share of McLean, started with interfaith partners
  • Collaborating with the property team for other green initiatives at church
  • Organizing trash pick up along a section of Route 123
  • Promoting actions to slow down greenhouse gas emissions that warm the climate
  • And so much more!

We are an Earth Care Congregation of the PC(USA). This means we connect with other churches in our presbytery and across the country to share resources and learn from one another.

You can also find more work that our denomination is doing through Presbyterians for Earth Care.

Our team also offers suggestions for ways you can practice earth care every day, reducing your carbon footprint with small, sustainable actions. Here’s one way to make an impact! Join the Sustain Fairfax Challenge to track your green efforts and to learn about more ways to live into creation care in your life.
