Making Room: Electronic Sabbath

“Remember the sabbath day, and keep it holy.” Exodus 20:8 

Start your Advent eco-journey with this challenge: try practicing an electronic sabbath. Taking a weekly day of rest, or sabbath, can also be an opportunity for environmental stewardship. Conserve energy and start your sabbath by powering down your cellphones, tablets, gaming devices, and computers. 

Here’s a prayer for today:

Holy One
We give you thanks for our connection
We give you thanks for technology that overcomes borders and the largest of boundaries
And, this day, we pray that through our rest we might reconnect 
With you, with one another, with ourselves
May all these things be so
