FACETS Hypothermia Prevention Shelter at IPC – This Winter!

Categories: Bible,Church,Events

Matthew 25: 40 “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family,* you did it to me.”

As we seek to be a “Matthew 25 congregation,” Session voted to open our doors as a hypothermia prevention shelter this winter in partnership with FACETS .  We will host approximately 40 homeless neighbors each night, providing a warm dinner, snack, breakfast and sack lunches each day.  Our goal will be to welcome each guest as though we are welcoming Christ himself into our midst.  We need YOU to make our hosting week a success! REMEMBER: ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST BE TRAINED AT IMMANUEL IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE!

Please give special consideration to being an overnight innkeeper if you’re a night-owl!  If you are able to help with TRANSPORTATION, please note that FACETS Director Maria Avila needs the following information at least three weeks in advance of your van training:

A copy of your driver’s license, a copy of your insurance card, and a Fairfax County authorization form. These documents have to go through processing at FACETS, and only then can you drive the vans to get your training in. Please email the documents to Mavila@FacetsCares.org.

You can find Sign-Up Genius links in your Friday E-Presence, or email office@ipcmclean.org.

VOLUNTEER TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES (All volunteers must attend one training to participate):

  • 11:20am on Sunday, October 29th: VOLUNTEER TRAINING with FACETS Director Maria Avila!  While Immanuel elders will provide the rest of the volunteer training opportunities (see below), this is your chance to be trained by and meet the director of the whole FACETS Hypothermia Prevention Program.  The training will conclude with time for additional Q&A.
